and the Titanic

This week I talk and calls on Africa Black Sea on board my ship. There is a strange similarity between these two marine casualties that challenges us, despite all their differences "in detail".
(correcting February 3, 2009 at 13:30) A
About Black Africa, a release of Captain Haddock dating from July 2007 will be back online here on Thursday evening, "time permitting". This concerns a matter that remains sadly topical in our time of the overflow of political correctness.
The Joola was also seen in Brest ...

other hand also to laugh, it also helps reflection, if you find the DVD see the movie "Paradise Africa. There is food for thought that the comical is liberating! On the occasion who has never set foot can find humor in Black Africa.

In Europe as in the rest of the world "we" forgot Joola, not the Titanic. The "Titanite" still rampant in our time. However, the Joola disaster is very close to us and has done a lot more victims.
Senegal had not deserved it, especially since this country is not strong and by far the most poorly governed Africa. It's the other one whose maritime tradition is one of the oldest in the entire Black Continent. Since independence Senegal has also quickly with a merchant fleet.
The " M / S Saint Louis " from the navigation Denis Brothers Co. during the 1970s, built in Japan in 1957. The St. Louis was also my first ship boarding. On board other vessels as SNO and Denis Brothers, sailed regularly and often at least a dozen Senegalese. All were paid as the Britons. ..

The Joola stopover in Dakar

Second President Wade of Senegal has made a very interesting comment about the election of Barack Obama that it is possible to find at my board. ( Yes he can! ) we must indeed be recalled that President Wade can only "fly" Senegal as it is, as Obama had to start doing it at home this week ... Change
Maj. flight of a Boeing 747 does not transform Airbus, and neither one nor the other can arise anywhere. It is impossible to change everything quickly in any country, especially attitudes Local. Or else, "must" be like Stalin ...
Everyone in Senegal, knew how the Joola was managed was very questionable, whether about its crew, its maintenance and technical management of its business, but sometimes also "his conduct at sea."
A number of seafarers from Dakar in Senegal and elsewhere, have too long been "talking in a vacuum," warning of the dangers of this mode of operation. Local authorities were warned of the growing risk of catastrophic accident that these methods were put passengers and crew. Again as in France, there are no cons, except sometimes to a semblance of control, almost collapsed.
A French magistrate has come in Senegal recently, under the procedures of the bereaved families and the European. His investigation has also gradually transformed into a conflict with his colleagues from Senegal, where part of the press accused him of trying to introduce a white justice in Black Africa. It seems to me that the problem is not there. It lies in the fact that no more than " France from above " listens "to the bottom ", the "Upper Senegal "will not easily listen to the people of his" Netherlands Senegal ", especially when members are involved ...
other hand corruption and contention were the notables in black Africa, long before whites settled there in order to become more than "heavy"
Who sold the slaves to the whites on the West Coast of Africa in the days of "triangular trade ?" The genre has to be perfectly " renewed "by the many contributions of colonization. It was even better (dare I say) with renewed Independence for less sloppy in the early 1960. Another broad topic and ....
The Willis replacing the Joola.

The Joola was more than 1900 victims and the Titanic 1500. This has happened not at the same time, nor with the same kind or the same type of ship and even less with the same kind of company. Everything seems different. Second one was operating without official story for years while the other made its maiden voyage when "here" has happened. In conclusion, the direct cause of their accident is not the same and the two passenger ships were not (all) the same public on board.
Relatives of victims began to understand ...

Yet beyond "all that" the common these two shipwrecks are numerous: Arrogance
managers and certain officers on board, technical sloppiness and general priority to " ever ", " always faster ", " still more people," the very common " I do not care weather " etc. ...
Arrive in Casamance

Bien sûr, il y a l'ancienneté but if "there is limited" to search "only" photographs of the two ships, it's amazing too. We live on a strange planet, there are many more views of the ship that was operated only 4 weeks ago (already!) 98 years than those who sailed for years ...
More fun (because so it can forget the victims) the more famous of the two, he cheats! Indeed the Titanic by the time his first phenomenal business career, did not leave a lot of pictures. We have not had much time to photograph is the case to say! Since 1985, however, can catch up with its spread sheets.
Its builders certainly did not imagine so ...

In fact the only authentic Titanic's views are those coming from the yard, (not all!) And his departure from Angeterre and Cherbourg. Other, more numerous and more beautiful, you almost always see the Olympic and sometimes the Brittanica! We therefore inevitably more views of the Olympic or perhaps Brittanica, and their figure being fatally exactly the same ...
The twin brothers have forgotten the Titanic in 2000, simply because they worked well!
between Dakar and the Casamance, the line is very important.

The successful career of commercial 'Olympic like the Brittanica was sabotaged at the beginning because of what we know. Coy was indeed forced to make big changes to their technical edge after the sinking. These long and very expensive work, causing unexpected and not always needed, no small contribution to the second wreck, financial one! The very successful business careers of Olympic and Brittanica deserve more attention:

In addition to tourists, we could all be on board most likely than aboard a large luxury liner on its maiden voyage announced with much fanfare. Not only were there more people on board the Joola but its causes are at least as stupid and strangely similar.
There was more in 2009 than the Senegalese press to discuss the subject. "People of Justice" in Senegal could only be seriously offended by an "intrusion" home of dear colleagues from Europe. So it has not finished trainer, alas.
Second and effectively in Senegal, just as in France, notable guilty of involuntary homicide style " tainted blood" or "faking " embarrassing as evidence in the crash of the Airbus A320 Mulhouse Abscheim it not at risk of severe condemnation ! In both countries, it is not the United States. Need I remind you that even "under" George W. Bush, rogue bosses who got caught went to jail and for long? "Manslaughter"? Here we are in the legal technicality. In the case of
Joola as for the other two cited above, "on" was warned of the danger . But "we" did nothing. Certainly there was no direct intention to kill or premeditation itself, but at least a buildup of very serious misconduct ...
However unfortunately, we forget more easily the victims of the Joola than the Titanic. I have a personal explanation to this strange phenomenon and social world. The Joola was not only unfairly "unnoticed". We must not forget the more than 8,000 refugees from the Germans Goya and most of 6000 the Gustloff. But in early 1945, the Germans "were paying the bill ". The greatest shipwrecks of all time were primarily crimes of war and among the worst episodes of all.

A rare photo of disaster Goya
board the Joola still was also a commercial passenger vessel. No!
I do not believe for a second that it's forgotten because "it was the blacks" in the majority. ... But
Aboard Joola there were only Senegalese Mr and Mrs "Everyone" , accompanied by hundreds of foreign tourists, who were also Mr. and Mrs. "Everybody ."
Se trouvaient à son bord presque tous ensemble , les people RICHEST IN THE WORLD for this maiden voyage. These people opposed to a persistent legend, almost all died in the accident at sea, remember that too. Their wives and children have often been able to survive however, as "less rich".
Second inquiry commissions and insurance litigation, business inheritance disputes with all this implies that sometimes interminable etc.. All this lasted a long time. In 1938 , we still had not finished picking up the pieces. That is to say! Even if we wanted to quickly forget the Titanic, it was impossible. So because the richest were all affected and number, we talked about!
In 1984 the press "pro" Maritime us "came out" still scabrous revelations of facts regarding the sinking of the Titanic remained "confidential", we do not always know why.
For example, two sailors helmsman watch before the mast, noticed too late (last minute) that is 5 to 1O minutes before departure, they did not have a pair of binoculars who was their "work tools" normal. A blunder of incalculable consequences, from whom?
It was time to finally realize that the economy is sinking ... Is not it?
This analogy is quite interesting. Although
